Regulation Of Normal Blood Pressure
You wonder how our body is maintaining a normal blood pressure in our body? So, basically,
Blood pressure is regulated by means of two mechanisms
1. Short Term Mechanisms
Short term mechanism includes primarily the Nervous mechanism.
Nervous mechanism works by the action of vasomoter center and impulses from periphery. This includes reflexes such as
Baroreceptor Reflex
Chemoreceptor Reflex
Atrial and Pulmonary Artery Reflex
Brain Bridge Reflex
CNS Ischemic Reflex
Abdominal Compression Reflex
2. Long Term Mechanisms
By this we mean an elevated blood pressure is accomplished within days, weeks or months. Anyhow, long term mechanisms are proven to be more effective to maintain blood pressure. Long term mechanism include
a) Renal Mechanism
Renal mechanism regulate blood pressure by the regulation of ECF and renin-angiotensin mechanism.
b) Hormonal Mechanism
Hormonal mechanism regulates blood pressure by releasing hormones that cause vasodilation and vasoconstriction.
c) Local Mechanism
Local mechanism works locally in tissues by causing local vasoconstriction and local vasodilation.
